Social Media Manager Jobs
Remote growth roles with OFM agencies. Run the free platforms that feed a creator's paid account, and get measured on the traffic you actually bring in.

What does a social media manager actually do?
A social media manager in this industry runs the free-platform side of a creator's business. Reddit, TikTok, X, Instagram and increasingly Threads are where subscribers are found, and your job is to turn attention on those platforms into paying subscribers on the creator's paid account.
Day to day that means planning and scheduling posts, writing captions and hooks, finding and working the subreddits or hashtags that convert, and reading the numbers to see which content is actually driving clicks rather than just likes. Most agencies expect you to own the whole loop from idea to posted content to measured result.
The work is judged on traffic, not on follower count. A manager who grows an account to a hundred thousand followers that never click through is worth less than one who runs a smaller account that converts, and good agencies will ask you about that distinction in the interview.
What do you need to get hired as a social media manager?
Every one of these is screenable on OFMJobs with built-in tests and AI scoring, before you ever message a candidate.
Platform-specific growth
Knowing what works on Reddit is not knowing what works on TikTok. Agencies hire for depth on the platforms they use.
Writing hooks and captions
The first line decides whether anything else gets read. This is the single most transferable skill in the role.
Reading analytics
Separating reach from clicks from conversions, and changing what you post based on which one moved.
Content scheduling at volume
Keeping several accounts posting consistently without the quality dropping on the fifth post of the day.
Staying inside platform rules
Adult-adjacent promotion gets accounts banned. Knowing where each platform's line sits protects the whole funnel.
Working from a brief
Holding a creator's persona and boundaries when you are the one writing in their voice in public.
What does social media manager work pay?
Hourly
$5-10 / hour
Common for a manager running scheduling and posting against someone else's strategy.
Monthly retainer
Most common$600-1,500 / month
The usual structure once you own strategy for one or more creators rather than executing a plan.
Retainer plus performance
Base + % of new subs
Ties part of your pay to the traffic you generate. The best-paid version of this role, and the one that needs clear attribution agreed up front.

Frequently asked questions
It helps but it is not usually required. Agencies hire people from ecommerce, agency and creator backgrounds regularly. What they will ask for is evidence you have grown something and can show what the growth did, so bring numbers rather than a follower count.
Reddit and TikTok drive the most traffic for most agencies, with X and Instagram used more for retention and presence. Many postings name the platform explicitly, so read the requirement before applying.
There is heavy overlap. Marketing VA tends to mean executing someone else's plan across several tasks, while social media manager tends to mean owning the growth of specific platforms. Titles vary by agency, so read what the posting actually asks you to do.
Usually yes, on the free platforms. That means writing in their voice and inside their stated boundaries. Clarify what you are and are not allowed to post before you start, and get it in writing.
Almost always by clicks through to the paid account and subscribers attributed to your platforms, not by follower growth. Ask which metric your pay depends on during the interview.
